Malik Altaf Hussain is Assistant Professor of Economics at the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar. He received his Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University in 2025 and recently completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the Knee Regulatory Research Center in the John Chambers College of Business and Economics at West Virginia University. He is also a Research Affiliate at the Knee Regulatory Research Center, West Virginia University.

His research lies at the intersection of applied microeconomics, historical political economy, development economics, and public health. He studies how political and cultural institutions shaped vaccination campaigns and mortality patterns in colonial India, and how these historical legacies continue to influence contemporary outcomes.
