Admission Process for IIM Amritsar MSDSM Batch of 2026

This document outlines the process that will be used for selecting meritorious candidates under each category of admission, that is, General, NC-OBC, SC, ST, and EWS, for admission to the joint M.Sc. in Data Science and Management (MSDSM) Program at the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar (IIM Amritsar) and Indian Institute of Technology Ropar (IIT Ropar) for the batch of 2026-28.

The selection process, selection criteria and weights given to various parameters are decided by the Indian Institute of Management Amritsar and Indian Institute of Technology Ropar annually. These criteria and weights are finalized at the beginning of each admission cycle before the Personal interview (PI) process. This is to ensure that the admissions process is objective.

The admissions process is divided into two stages. The first stage involves shortlisting candidates for Personal Interviews. The second stage involves shortlisting candidates for the decision regarding admission to the MSDSM Program.

4. IIM Amritsar uses a composite score of multiple parameters such as marks in 10th and 12th Board exams, marks of Graduation Program, quality of Work Experience, Gender, and Personal Interview score.

5. Candidates are advised to clearly present marks-related information at the 10th, 12th, and graduation levels, and information relating to their branch of study in their graduation. Incorrect presentation of information will be construed as misrepresentation, resulting in the candidate’s application not being considered for the next level in the selection process. IIM Amritsar’s decision in this matter will be final, and no further discussion will be entertained with regard to the processing of such an application.

Pre- Personal Interview (PI) Process

6. The first stage of the process is applied to all eligible candidates to determine candidates to be called for PI.

7. The minimum eligibility criteria for candidates are listed below:

  • 60% or 6.0 CPI/CGPA or First Class, as defined by the awarding university or institute, in the qualifying degree.
  • The qualifying degree shall be any accredited and approved Bachelor's or Master's degree or any other equivalent degree, preferably involving management, mathematics, computer science, or allied fields. Candidates must have an aptitude for mathematics or computer science.
  • Valid test score of either CAT/GATE/GMAT/GRE/JAM from the past three years as on 31-July-2026.
  • Candidates who have appeared in any of the above tests and have yet to receive the results can apply, provided the results are submitted by 30th June 2026.
  • Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria DOES NOT guarantee shortlisting or admission to the program.
  • Reservation norms as per Government of India (IIM Act 2017) will be applicable.

8. Candidates who meet the minimum eligibility criteria will go through merit-based shortlisting. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for Personal Interviews (PI).

PI and Final Selection Process

9. Based on the score obtained from the PI, previous academic performances, gender diversity, and work experience, a composite score will be created for the selection of candidates for the program. The weightage for the parameters is given below:

Parameters Weightage (%)
Class X 10
Class XII 10
Qualifying Degree 10
Work Experience 10
Personal Interview 50
Gender Diversity 10

10. The candidates’ Class X, Class XII and Qualifying Degree scores are awarded as per the table below:

Range of Marks (%) Score
≤ 55 5
55.01 to 65 6
65.01 to 70 7
70.01 to 80 8
80.01 to 90 9
≥ 90 10

In case the marks obtained are not available in percentage form, the CGPA will be converted into equivalent percentage as per the conversion norms provided by the university/institution. If no formula is provided, CGPA as a percentage of maximum grade points will be considered.

11. The candidates’ work experience scores will be awarded as per the score function given below:

Score = 10 − f(M) for M ≤ 60 and for M > 60, Score = 0; where M stands for number of months of work experience.

12. The composite score calculated in point 9 will be used to select candidates. The process and weights are uniform across all categories, with reservation norms applied as required.

13. The final ranking list for admission to the MSDSM 2026-28 program will be based on the aggregate score. Admission offers will be made strictly based on this final ranking.
